iPad

I am slowly but surely turning into a geek, a technology geek, to be more precise. 

I blame it on the geeky friend. 

I was ignorant and happy (ignorant that's why happy) with my Windows laptop until he introduced me to the wonders of the Macintosh laptop, and now I cannot live without my Macbook Pro.

He showed me how a good speaker can really bring the experience of a home movie to a whole new level, and then we saw the beautiful Bose SoundLink advertisement in the cinema which made me want to get a good speaker even more. I am considering getting either Bose SoundLink or Jawbone Jambox.

Now, he is going to influence on the way I read books too?

He introduced me to this great website ikandou where there are millions of books I can download for free and read on my iPhone using the kindle application (my only complain is the selection of English titles available is too little, but then it's a China website, so what can I say). The kindle application on my iPhone works fine, but the screen is a little small and my eyes get tired after a while. That's when he introduced to me the Kindle Paperwhite. I have seen how easy it is to read books using his Kindle ebook reader, and I am quite sure Kindle is good if it "remained the undisputed leader in the e-reader category, accounting for 59% of e-readers shipped" as according to Wikipedia. 

Since I am slowly but surely becoming an Apple fan (first the iPhone, now the Macbook Pro), I thought it will be nice to have have everything from Apple, so I started thinking about the iPad.

Since it will mostly be used for reading, movies and games, I will probably get the Wifi-only version since I have a good Wifi at home (Singtel is still the best).

I was trying to decide between the iPad 2 and iPad 3 and here is the comparison.

Display: I am pretty sure this is going to be the deciding factor - the retina display.

Design: It's the same, really.

Camera: iPad 3 comes with a 5-megapixel camera on the rear is which is dubbed iSight and comes with optics that take much sharper images and replicate colours naturally. 

Battery: It seems that the battery last longer on the iPad 2, without the Retina display, quad-core GPU and LTE technology do burn through the battery.

In conclusion, I think I will go for the iPad 3. $100 upgrade for retina display and camera that takes sharper picture is well worth it, don't you think?

I will go and play around with the real thing before making any commitment.
